In the DVD “The Secretâ€, it is showing people how to focus their lives to reach their goals.
I was excited to discover this DVD, because it was finally something that communicated what I had been sharing with people for so long, about how I obtained my success.
Many people are oversimplifying the message of The Secret, which promotes the principle that “like attracts like.” “Don’t just think that you want to win the lottery, visualize having the money because it’s simply a ‘how’ to get to the ‘what’ that you want.” There are four steps to getting what you want:
(1) Be very clear about what it is that you want;
(2) Believe that you can get it; and
(3) Take action
(4) Be able to receive it.
By following those steps, you will be able to set and reach three goals in nine areas of life each year. Each of us needs to look at life in many different areas and say, ‘What do I want to do with these areas in my life?'”
These are the nine areas of your life to focus on:
Financial: This takes into account your cash flow, your net profit and your savings for retirement. For many of us, a healthy bank account upon retirement is an important goal. With visualization, discipline, and proper investments. You can put away enough each year to be a multi-millionaire by age 65 or much earlier.
Career: Consider your ideal job. What makes you happy? Where is your passion? Visualize what you want and your subconscious mind will begin to figure out how to get there. If you truly follow your passion, the money will follow.
Relationships: Think about what the ideal relationship would be with everyone in your life—partners, parents, colleagues, children, etc. What qualities do you want to see in those relationships? Ask yourself what you want and how you can create it.
Health and fitness: As health, fitness and science/medicine advances, we’re continually learning what we can do to be responsible for our own bodies. When things happen that are out of our control, like illness or catastrophe, we can be responsible for our responses. Many people are unconscious of their responses, so when you begin controlling them, your life becomes more intentional and you start getting more of what you want.
Fun and recreation: Each year, look at how many vacations you want to take and where you want to go. If you don’t plan them, the rest of life gets in the way and you don’t take time out for yourself.
Contributions: It’s important to set goals for ways to contribute, not only monetarily, but also by donating your time or expertise to those who could benefit from it.
Personal goals: Tying in all of the above, set goals for what you want to achieve personally each year. If you want to be successful, hang out with people who are successful. It is extremely important to be living in a state of optimistic expectation, rather than negativity. When you’re describing your current reality, what you’re really doing is prescribing your future reality.
Spirituality: Spirituality does not necessarily mean religion, although it may include your own personal religious views and beliefs. Finding your own spiritual path involves a variety of things. Self realization and finding your purpose in life are just the tip of the iceberg. This does not mean you have to do chants and become a hippie, although that is fine if you want to do it. Spirituality shows up in many different forms. Explore what this means for you.
Education: Education is hugely important for a number of reasons. Many people will discount higher learning and claim that they can get through life being 100% self taught. I would argue that while self teaching is an important trait to have, that higher education offers much more than information to a dedicated student. The first benefit of higher education is networking. Never underestimate the power of knowing a widely varied group of people who are all focused on their future. These connections will serve you well all throughout your life. Also of great importance in higher education is the gift of a common language. You can be sure that when you talk to other people with similar knowledge, that they will know where you’re coming from and most often “speak your language.” Finally, the wealth of opportunity to go beyond the textbook with a qualified expert professor, or an ambitious grad student, or even your fellow students, is so great in higher learning that I can barely think of a better way to learn! Of course, once you’re out of school you must self motivate constantly to ensure that you have a love of learning for a lifetime. A life without learning is one in stasis, and successful people are ever changing!
