Treat happiness as a method, not an end in itself. The meaning of method is, Orderliness of thought or behavior; systematic planning or action: “combination of knowledge and method”. Instead of just taking it for granted or thinking happiness is an automatic feeling that just pops up out of nowhere, although this is true and does happen we can also, systematically create happiness in each choice in every moment. You can choose to be happy. Just like seeing the glass half empty or half full, either is a choice. We have the ability to create our happiness. I remember years ago a friend of mine asked me how come I’m always so happy. She said that’s all she wanted was just to be happy. I told her “So, BE happy.†She said it wasn’t that easy. But really it is just that. It’s a choice; a state of being; a decision to in that moment, and in every moment to be grateful for everything surrounding us. It is virtually impossible to be grateful for everything and at the exact same time be unhappy. The beauty of it is that it’s not something that works following a certain structure, it’s purely subjective. The experience of it, how we will feel and express it, and the degree you express it, is influenced by how much we teach ourselves to feel it, to express it and encounter it within ourselves. It’s how much we decide to respond in a positive manner to what happens our in lives.
