Embarrassed? Don’t be!

Going to the gym for the first time can be a little stressful.  Beautiful people doing beautiful and difficult things can make us feel like we’re just not up to those standards.  People get embarrassed and use that excuse to avoid the gym.  I think I can convince those people that they have absolutely no reason to be embarrassed.

When we’re children, one of the first things that adults tell us is that we should never care about what people think, and we should just do what we want to do!  be an individual, they say!  This is good advice, but its missing an important distinction.  We should definitely care about what people think.  We need to guide our actions based partly on what people think about the things we do and the way we appear.  We should use others opinions as a part of our logical process when we decide what to do.  I think the advice that many give should be modified to “go ahead and think about what other people think about you, but don’t let that rule your decisions!”  If you really want to do something, world be damned, you should do it!  No matter what people at the gym think of you, you should be there and making your life and health better because its what works for you.  Don’t worry about them.

That is an admirable way to be, but as we all know taking that stance may be difficult.  I am going to make it easier for you by telling you just what all those gym rats are actually thinking, I’ve spent a lot of time talking to them, and they absolutely do NOT care about body type or fitness level at all!  People who are in great shape and spend a lot of time at the gym have a special dedication into making their body the best it can be.  They care, a lot, about their fitness, and they know what it takes to be a very fit person.  It requires sacrifice, dedication, knowledge, effort, skill, and temperance.  The individual who has these qualities universally despises laziness and apathy.  If you are in the gym with them improving yourself and starting your journey, they will love and accept you, because you are breaking those chains and living your life powerfully.  They, too, started their journey at some point in their lives, and they know how hard it can be to just start, not to mention breaking habits and forming new ones.  They know the stress that a new routine can put on your body.  They admire you for getting out there and doing something difficult, and only they can truly understand what you’re going through.  Not only are they too bust thinking about themselves and what other people around them think of themselves; they GET what your up to, they respect you, and they don’t look down on you, so don’t be embarrassed to kick butt and use the gym powerfully!
