TED is awesome! It stands for : Technology, Education, Design...but the scope is much more broad since its inception in the 80s. TED is a conference that travels the world and has speakers who deliver engaging talks on subjects that affect our modern world. If you want to go see it live, it costs about $6,000 per ticket. Luckily, you can watch all of them online for free! The video quality is great, and the subjects talked about are even better. Their mission is all about spreading ideas, and there are over 900 TED talks available online right now.
If you've ever got a spare 10 or 15 minutes online, what might you do? We often hit a news site, or maybe watch some videos, or even catch up on some shopping or facebook. What if you could take that 10 or 15 minutes of relaxation time and use it to be not only entertained, but enriched? The wonderful thing about TED is that it is really inspiring, in addition to being informative. These aren't dry interviews with stuffy academics, these are one man shows driven by people whose passion in what they're talking about is, most often, a lifelong dedication to their ideas.
Spend some time on TED, and let me know what you think. Over the next few days I'll be posting some of my favorite videos, ones that are near and dear to my heart and the subjects I write about here. For starters, check out Jessica Jackley's talk about poverty. As the co-founder of Kiva (one of my favorite charities!) I think you will find that she has many important things to say!
